Seven Magic Mountains

Instagram is great for many things. One of those things is the multiple adventure ideas and unique locations that others share. This stop is one of those places I found on social media, and I knew we had to add this place to our must-see list while visiting Las Vegas.

I never expected such a unique rock sculpture to be located out in the middle of nowhere outside of Las Vegas.

Directions: After you leave Las Vegas, you begin to hit desert quickly. From the Las Vegas strip, drive south on Interstate 15 about 10 miles. You will then take exit 25 and turn left onto Sloan Road for 0.3 miles. Next, turn right onto South Las Vegas Blvd. Follow this road to Seven Magic Mountains which will be about 7.7 miles and is located on your left-hand side. You will find these giant colorful boulders just sitting proudly in the middle of the desert.

Address: South Las Vegas boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada

Hours: open 24 hours, daily

There are no restrooms or other amenities at this location.

No overnight camping allowed.

Parking

Parking is limited but FREE. It is a short flat walk to the rock display on a dirt/gravel pathway.

Time spent at this location would be around 30 minutes.

Pets

Pets are welcome if on a leash. This location is hot in this summer so be prepared with extra water for your pet.

Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone

It is inspiring to think someone just came up with an idea to paint giant boulders and stack them on top of each other and place them in the middle of the desert. Who knew something so simple would draw a large attraction daily. Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone decided to create this site-specific art display for others to enjoy.

This was supposed to be a limited time attraction but due to its popularity the boulders have remained at this location since 2016.

Graffiti

What do you think of the graffiti on the rocks? I sometimes think graffiti involves a creative aspect of someone’s thinking. It is a way to express oneself if done appropriately. But I also agree it is defacing the property of others which is illegal. Does it add to the beauty of these rocks or detract from it? Comment below.

Temps can get up to 104 degrees or higher in the summer so plan accordingly and bring plenty of water and sunscreen. This is a quick stop on your way to your next adventure!
