Four Corners National Monument

Explore the cultural heritage of Four Corners National Monument which is nestled in southwestern United States where this unique monument marks the only point in the country where four states - Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah - meet. This is an area you must visit when traveling through the area.

This is a quick stop and will typically take less than an hour to visit. This is the only place in the United States where you can get a picture of yourself standing in four states at once. The four states will be listed on the ground, so you know which states you are standing in and where they are located.

Navajo and Ute Tribes

The two Native American Tribes that were represented the day we visited and were selling their artistic wares were the Navajo and Ute Tribes. The vendors were very friendly and most of them were happy to talk about their wares or heritage.

The one man we met from the Ute tribe was very friendly and enjoyed talking about his native culture. I appreciate his story and the life he lives representing his tribe.

Things to know

  • Masks are no longer required as of 2024.

  • We arrived around 9 am in June 2022 and had no trouble getting right in. Sometimes they become really busy, and you may have a long wait to get in.

  • Taking your picture (like below) will often require waiting in long lines. People are always willing to take your picture if you return the favor which has been helpful at every location we go to.

  • No pets are allowed except service animals.

Other points of interest in the surrounding area

Native American Wares

While you are there, take time to shop for Native American wares to include ornaments, dream catchers, magnets, jewelry, t-shirts, pottery and more. In the picture above you can see the vendor shops in the background. They are all open aired and artistic wares are all made by the local Native Americans tribal people.

It was an amazing experience to be able to step in four states at once. I recommend you take the time to stop here when in the area and visit the local tribes to learn more about their culture.

Remember it is very hot here in the summer months so come prepared with sunscreen and water. Their website says it is cooler in the fall months. There were not a lot of vendors open when we were there but the handmade items we did see were of good quality. The vendors we visited took credit cards and cash.

Add this stop to your bucket list!
