Explore Kensington Palace and the garden grounds for a budget-friendly option while visiting London in the United Kingdom. The Kensington Palace offers a perfect blend of history, natural beauty and royal elegance. It’s the birthplace of Queen Victoria has been the home to over 300 royals.
The gardens, once a private garden, now is open to the public and allows the opportunity to visit the stunning green space offering a peaceful place to relax with the beautiful palace as your backdrop.
If you are visiting London on a budget, exploring the Kensington Palace and garden grounds is the perfect way to experience royal history without spending any money. You can explore the grounds without going inside the palace as the palace requires an entrance fee, whereas the gardens are free to visit but still offer a beautiful scenery among this historical landscape.
Kensington Palace open green space
Wander through the beautifully landscaped paths as you admire the gardens and take in the magnificent views of Kensington Palace from the outside. Stand by the large gate and take a photo opportunity as you imagine walking through the gates of royalty.
The wide-open green space upon entrance to the grounds allows the opportunity to sit and relax with a book or bring your lunch and have a royal picnic on the lawn.
Princess Diana Memorial Gardens
Next, spend time visiting Princess Diana’s Sunken Gardens which offers a blend of memorial and calm as you reminisce on her beauty and kindness that was taken away from her family to soon. She spent 15 years at Kensington Palace enjoying the many gardens and spending time with the gardeners.
We spent time wandering around the garden and admiring the beauty she created and the viewing the warmth of her statue with her son. The statue of her was erected in 2021 by her sons and watches over the gardens she enjoyed so much. Walk under the tree lined canopy and lush flowers following the path around the garden to the other side.

Booking London Accommodations
Looking for a place to stay while in London? Check out booking.com or VRBO for the perfect location. We chose to stay about 20 minutes outside of London to keep our cost lower. It was so easy to get to the city center by Tube that this made our location worth the distance. If you are looking to keep your London travel cheaper, book your accommodations outside the city center.

When in London, make sure to stop by Kensington Palace to view the stunning grounds. Whether you want budget-friendly travel by visiting the grounds and the outside palace or you want to splurge on a black cab tour, London has so many beautiful locations to explore.
