The Best Places to Eat in Fort Myers Florida

My husband and I have been watching Phil Rosenthal’s Netflix series “Somebody Feed Phil”. In this show Phil travels all around the world exploring different cultures through the food he tries and the people he visits. He goes to different countries trying local cuisines, meeting the locals, and submerging himself into their way of life. The food, people and culture he sees along the way is inspiring. I love the humor he displays as he entertains us and provides us an educational experience through his love of life and the people he encounters along the way.

We actually got to meet Phil Rosenthal when he was in Tampa on his World Tour. His display of humor and kind spirit is proven to be genuine for all things he loves.

Fort Myers, Florida

My family and I decided that we wanted to do our own version of Somebody Feed Phil but on a much smaller scale. We drove to Fort Myers, Florida to check out the area and of course eat our way through the town. I researched the best places to eat in Fort Myers and off we went. We chose to eat small amounts at each location, so we had enough room to try multiple things. It was such a fun experience and even my teenagers loved this! Win Win!!

Banyan Tree

First, check out the massive Banyan tree that is located near the old Lee County Courthouse. The root system is amazing on this tree and the old courthouse is an historic picturesque building that would make a great area to take pictures by.

1st Stop - Best Ice Cream

Our first stop was this amazingly sweet place called Best Ice Cream. When you first walk in, they give you a free sample of cereal with nitrogen that makes “smoke” come out of your mouth as you eat it. The kids found that amusing. All of their ice cream is made from scratch daily and they use only fresh ingredients to serve with the ice cream.

We ordered the Dream Cloud ice cream which is any flavor of ice cream with almost any topping you want. Then they add freshly made cotton candy on top and then top with cereal and candy. It is so sweet but such a fun way to eat ice cream. I didn’t finish all of the cotton candy because oh my gosh, it was a lot!

Address: 2215 Winkler Ave K, Fort Myers

Hours: Closed Monday, Tuesday to Thursday 1:30pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday 1:30pm to 10pm and Sunday 1:30pm to 9pm.

The next three food stops are all within walking distance of each other. You can also walk to the old courthouse to see the banyan tree which is near stop #3.

2nd Stop - Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza

Our next stop was for pizza at Capone’s Coal Fired Pizza. Named after the infamous Al Capone, this restaurant pays homage to that era with its historical memorabilia displayed throughout the restaurant. They are known for their coal fired pizza which can be shared family style and had an amazing flavor!

While we waited, they gave our younger son a small amount of pizza dough to play with to keep him occupied while we waited for our pizza. The atmosphere had a really good vibe, and the pizza was reasonably priced. See Capone’s lunch and dinner menu in slideshow below. They offer all your Italian favorites from pizza, to meatballs, to wings. All ingredients are fresh and made to order. You will enjoy this place.

Address: 2225 First Street, Fort Myers

Hours: Sunday to Thursday 11am to 10pm and Friday and Saturday 11am to 11pm.

3rd stop - le macaron french pastries

Onto another sweet spot at the le macaron French pastries bakery. We have never had macaron’s and wanted to try this authentic French treat that so many people admire. There was this cute little shop, and the lady working was very friendly and knowledgeable about the treats they were selling. We took in all the flavors available and chose the flavors we felt we would like. I will have to be honest. We actually did not like the taste of the macarons. This had nothing to do with this location, we just didn’t like them. I am sure for those of you who like macaron’s, you will find this place very cute and enjoyable. Some of the chocolates they served were very unique, from lipstick, fancy hearts, and cigars. This is a chain so if you love this bakery, you can find them throughout the US.

Address: 1540 Broadway, Fort Myers

Hours: Sunday 12pm to 6pm, Monday to Thursday 11am to 7:30pm, Friday 11am to 8:30pm, and Saturday 10am to 8:30pm.

4th and final food stop - Cabos Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar

Our final stop was a Mexican restaurant, Cabos Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar. We tried many different varieties of Mexican food from the empanadas, guacamole which they prepare at your table for an extra fee, and mini tacos. You can enjoy many different types of handcrafted tacos, specialty margaritas, and daily specials from $2 tacos to 1/2 off margaritas. The food and service were so good, and I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Address: 2226 First Street, Fort Myers

Hours: Sunday to Thursday 11am to 10pm, Friday to Saturday 11am to 11pm

Final stop ~ Lighthouse Beach Park on Sanibel Island

If you know me, you know I love the beach, so before we headed home, we had to check out the beach. We drove about 45 minutes to Lighthouse Beach Park along Sanibel Island. This offers a really good beach for finding seashells and a wonderful view of the sunset (by the fishing pier). Swimming, restrooms, outside showers, picnic area and a fishing pier are available. The 138-year-old beautiful lighthouse was still standing after hurricane Ian in 2022 wiped out the rest of the area. It is a miracle it survived. 5 months after the hurricane, the light was restored and lit up the area with its presence once again.

Address: 110 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel

Parking price is a little high so be prepared. It is $5 an hour (24 hours a day) to park at this beach. Also, parking is very limited so you might have to circle around several times before you find an open spot.

Indulge yourself in a flavorful journey filled with delicious food and amazing family memories. Each city has its own unique eateries where each restaurant can offer a variety of food relatable to the culture and people of the area. You can find waterfront seafood restaurants to authentic international cuisines. Fort Myers brought us a glimpse into the diversity of the area, making a lasting impression on our family.
