Camping with llamas at Llamaland Ranch

As I was searching for places to stay while in Waco, Texas I came across Llamaland Ranch. I was so intrigued by the idea of sleeping next to llamas, so I decided to look more into it. What I found was this cute little llama farm in Tool Texas that provided the opportunity for us to interact with llamas and enjoy a camping experience like no other. You can spend time interacting with and feeding the llamas as you enjoy the serenity of the surrounding fields that the llamas call home. Watch the sunset and enjoy a peaceful morning, waking up in an unforgettable adventure surrounded by llamas as you camp on this rugged beauty of land.

Boondocking

Now typically I boondock so I can camp for free, but I felt this was worth the small price for the experience. There are RV and tent sites, and each site is large enough for group camping with plenty of room to spread out. This farm has about 50 llamas on private land which the current family has owned since 1987. I wouldn’t say there are actual “sites” but more like areas where the owner has placed picnic tables, firepits, and chairs. During our stay, we parked under a big shade tree that provided some reprieve from the warmth of the sun while interacting with the llamas.

Property boundaries

You are free to roam the 101-ace land while visiting Llamaland Ranch. From wide open pastures to the 50-foot-deep creek, you will have plenty of space to explore. Be aware of your surroundings as the owner clearly states, they are not a rescue organization, and you are on your own when exploring.

How to book a campsite

There are 6 camping sites to choose from and you can book your stay through Hipcamp. The owner, Judy, tries to find the best spot for your family once you arrive. We were the only ones there when we camped in June 2022. Special events are held throughout the year, check their Llamaland Ranch website for details.

Interacting with the llamas

There is a lot of land to roam around and at some point, the llamas will leave you alone once you stop feeding them. You can find them grazing in the pasture and can go visit them at any time throughout your stay. There is plenty of land to explore, fish, play yard games, or let the kids roam and enjoy the open pasture.

Sunset

Don’t skip on watching the sunset before you head to bed. What makes this even more special is being able to interact with the llamas while you enjoy the sunset.

We spent the rest of the evening cooking s’mores and enjoying the peacefulness of this land while sitting around the campfire. The property has multiple chairs provided by the owner to use as you wind down for the night. You will definitely want to check out this camping location and get some llama love for yourself.
