Spectacular City Views from the London Eye

The London Eye standing 443 feet tall next to the Thames River is one of United Kingdom’s most iconic landmarks and is a must-visit attraction for anyone visiting London. As the tallest observation Ferris wheel in Europe, it offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the city, allowing visitors to get an amazing view of London’s historical landmarks and architectural wonders. You can practically see the entire city of London as London is only 1 square mile total, making it one the smallest capital cities in world.

A ride on the London Eye provides a unique way to view the city creating an unforgettable experience in this vibrant city full of so much history.

Views from the top of the London Eye

If you have a fear of heights, this ride may not be your favorite. Once inside one of the 32 capsules, there is a bench for you to sit on if you prefer or you can stand against the glass to enjoy the views up close. The ride is narrated to give you an understanding of some of the views you are seeing. The ride is continuous and only stops if needed while others are getting off or on and need support.

The ride is 30-minutes from the time you get on to the time you get off. It is slow moving, so you barely feel like you are moving. You will have amazing views of the Elizabeth Tower, Thames River, St Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and much more!

Purchasing tickets

You must purchase timed tickets in advance to experience the London Eye. Once you have your ticket, download it or take a screen shot of it as our internet on my phone didn’t work while we were in line. They do have Wi-Fi nearby that you can connect to, ask the attendants for help connecting to the Wi-Fi if needed.

Children under the age of 2 are free but will still need a timed ticket.

Fast track tickets can be purchased so you can skip the long line and cost £44-57 per person.

Strollers and wheelchairs can be taken on the London Eye but must be folded while on the experience. You can also leave them for free at the ticket office if you prefer. Large luggage cannot be brought on the London Eye and must be left at the ticket office for £5 each piece.

Standard ticket prices: $40.77 per person at Get Your Guide. Tickets are cheaper the earlier you purchase them.

London Eye Hours: vary depending on time of year, check their website for details. Summer hours typically open from 10am to 8:30pm and outside of summer months, hours vary 11am to 6pm.

Waiting in line

You cannot enter the line until the exact time/queue on your ticket. The line is really long but overall, it goes fast, and we were only in the line for about 45 minutes. Our waiting experience was during the summer month of July for perspective.

Champagne with a view

Looking for a unique champagne with a view experience while on the London Eye? How about not only getting fast track entrance but also enjoying a glass of Pommery Brut Royal Champagne along with your host? If that sounds like the perfect romantic experience, then book your online tickets now for an unforgettable and relaxing experience.

Other London Eye experiences

Check out Get Your Guide for other London Eye experiences that combine this attraction with other London attractions for discounted prices.

Overall experience and alternative views

Our experience with the London Eye was fantastic and we enjoyed our time, but if there was one experience I would skip next time, it would be the London Eye. If a bird’s eye view of London is what you are seeking, that can also be done from The Shard or Sky Garden.

The Sky Garden is free if you plan ahead and has amazing views of the surrounding area. Each of these views also can be experienced while you enjoy a meal or sipping your coffee or a bubbly. Check out their websites for more details.

Accommodations in London

While we visited London, I used booking.com to book the home we stayed at. We had really good luck with this app and the home we stayed at was perfect for us. Check out booking.com, VRBO or Hostelworld for your next stay while visiting London

Needed items when visiting London

We used each of these items while traveling to London from the United States and I highly recommend each item!

Other travel recommendations

The London Eye was only supposed to be in London for a limited time and then was supposed to travel to new locations for others to enjoy but due to its popularity and seeing over 3 million visitors a year, it has remained in London since it was built in 1999 to celebrate the Millenium. It brings over £125,000 a day, so the ride remains in London for visitors to enjoy year-round. If you are looking for an iconic tourist attraction, then the London Eye is something magical to see where you can get the best views in London.

Enjoy the journey,
