Visiting Le Clair, Iowa

Nestled along the scenic banks of the Mississippi River you will find the charming town of LeClair, Iowa. This quaint town is full of rich history, culture and adventure. The picturesque streets invite visitors in as they explore attractions like Antique Archaeology, made famous by the TV show American Pickers.

I have always loved antiques and how they give a sense of warmth and comfort as I imagine the stories they could tell. From simpler times when families made it a point to sit down together at supper time and enjoy the company of each other. At Antique Archaeology, antique enthusiasts or curious travelers can enjoy an eclectic array of vintage and antique treasures while enjoying the nostalgia of days past.

Throughout my home decorating years, my styles have changed from primitive to Farmhouse style thanks to the TV show Fixer Upper! The creativity husband and wife team Chip and Joanna Gaines produce is incredible. They are a picture of the American family. Love, Family and God!

View our trip to Magnolia Market where you can learn about all the details of visiting their hometown in Waco, Texas. Check out Joanna’s awesome decorating book, Homebody, that gives you creative ideas to design your own home. Don’t forget to also grab Joanna’s newest cookbook, Volume 3.

We decided to visit Le Clair, Iowa to visit Antique Archaeology (American Pickers) and while we were there, they were also having a Food Truck Fight, so we decided to do both at the same time.

Antique Archaeology Stores (American Pickers)

The above picture is the first building Antique Archaeology had while filming their show, American Pickers. The two pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz drive all over the United States looking for treasures that they can include in their store. It is amazing to see some of the treasures they can find hiding in someone’s barn, attic or even under dirt and debris in their yard. This original building is where they store the items they hand pick to sell in their store. This store was not open while we were there.

We did however get to visit their other store, on the same property (see below picture) that was built several years ago. This is where they keep some antiques but mostly their Antique Archaeology merchandise for purchase. Souvenirs included t-shirts, key chains, hats, buttons, bags and more.

Food Truck Fight

The town of Le Claire was having a Food Truck Fight at the same time we were there, and we are big fans of food trucks, so we decided to take a day trip to feed our faces with greasy food and visit the Antique Archaeology shop! It was within walking distance to Antique Archaeology, so we decided to do both on the same day. The Food Truck Fight was a couple blocks away and was right along the Mississippi river.

Cost of Food Truck Fight event

$10 per person to enter, kids 12 and under are free

They typically have between 12-25 food trucks at each event. Each food truck will have a $5 feature item you can purchase plus their full menu to choose from. Each of the food trucks compete to be the top Food Truck. Upon entrance, you will receive a token that you put in a jar at whichever food truck you feel should be the winner. Take your time to enjoy each food truck and then pick the winner! It is fun to see this friendly competition take place while you enjoy some amazing food. There is also a live band to enjoy while you eat and an amazing view of the Mississippi River.

This event takes place at three locations

Bettendorf, Iowa

Muscatine, Iowa

My Favorite Food Trucks! Kelley Girls Woodfire Pizza

There was some amazing food that we sampled but my favorite was Kelley Girls Woodfire Pizza truck. Their wood fire pizza was amazing and made in an oven off the back of their trailer, and since their food was so good, it made their line the longest! The crust was my favorite, and the toppings were of fresh and good quality. They won the championship the year we went which was super fun to experience! Check them out on Instagram and Facebook for food truck locations.

We can’t go to a food truck fight without trying some ice cream. We enjoyed the huge amount of shaved ice with ice cream in the middle from Mahala Sweet Treats! So delicious!!

Giving back to the community

One great thing about this event is that they give back to the community every year by making donations to a local organization.
