Fashion on a budget

I love to shop. I love to dress nice. I love to try new outfits with style help from Pinterest. If you go to Pinterest you can type topics such as Summer outfits, Summer dresses, Beach wear, Winter work outfits, etc., and it will give you whole new wardrobe ideas to choose from. I also like to dress my kids in good name brand clothes but I definitely don’t want to spend department store prices. So how do I afford nice clothes at a decent price especially when I am dressing six people?

The answer is simple. I shop at resale shops for most of our clothes. Now I do occasionally shop at retail stores but I quickly head to the sale or clearance rack if I am looking for something specific.

The bonus is that once we decide we no longer like an outfit or it becomes to small then I can take our clothes back to the resale shop and most of the time they will pay me cash or give me store credit for the clothes I no longer want. Now they typically only take name brand clothing which is great because that is what I like to buy so it works for us!

Using this method gives me more options to buy nice clothes more often. About 4 times a year, when the seasons change, my kids and I go through our clothes to find items we no longer wear that we can turn in for cash.

There are always a few items they will not take because either it is no longer in style or it is an older piece so I then take those items and donate to my local thrift store. I can then write off on my taxes those items I donate to thrift stores.

Some of my favorite resale shops are Plato’s Closet, Stuff etc., Uptown Cheapskate (my new fav), and Once Upon a Child (for kids clothes).

I hope you can find a special occasion to dress up and take advantage of recycling and reusing by supporting local resale shops. There are also online resale shops popping up recently to check into. Leave a comment of your favorite resale shops!

Enjoy the Journey,
