Seashells and Sunsets: Unwind at Pass-a-Grille Beach, Florida

Pass-a-Grille Beach

Pass-a-Grille Beach, situated on the southern end of St. Pete Beach, Florida, is a serene and picturesque destination known for its tranquility and abundant seashells. This less known location offers visitors a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the more crowded beaches nearby.

This beach contains white powdery sand, and you will immediately notice how much quieter this area is as you relax to the gentle rhythm of the waves as they hit against the shore. This area is unlike the touristy beaches as it retains a sense of calm against the unspoiled beach.

Parking

You can find street parking next to the beach for a fee. I always use the ParkMobile app to help find parking and I can pay for parking directly from this app, and if I choose to extend my time, it will notify me, and I can do so from the app also. At each beach location, there will be a sign with the lot number, making it easy to find where you are on the app. You can use the machines at each location if you prefer to pay for parking that way.

Pass-a-Grille seashell hunting

This area of Pass-a-Grille Beach is a prime spot for seashell hunting. You can wander along the shoreline and discover a treasure trove of colorful seashells scattered along the edge of the water, washed ashore from the Gulf of Mexico. This is one of my favorite beaches in this area for finding some amazing seashells. This will offer you endless opportunities to bring home a seashell souvenir. If you bring your snorkel gear, you can swim out a way and have a greater chance of finding sand dollars. Remember: DO NOT TAKE LIVE SEASHELLS! SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Some of the common shells we find in this area are Florida Fighting Conch (sounds like konk), sand dollars, lettered olives, lightning Whelk, bay scallops, turkey wing, shark eye, kitten’s paw, banded tulip, common nutmeg, sunray venus, cerith, slipper shells, ponderous arc, coquina, lucines, spiney jewel box, prickly cockle, Atlantic giant cockle, angel wing, and apple murex.

As we are shelling, we use these mesh bags to hold our shells in. The mesh allows us to wear them as we are in the water which helps drain any sand that may be stuck to the shells, and the zipper keeps the shells from falling out.

Pass-a-Grille sunsets

You will find stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico and breathtaking sunsets that paint the sky hues of pink, yellow, orange and gold. Whether you want solitude, or a romantic sunset stroll, this beach guarantees a space to reconnect with nature and enjoy a peaceful getaway in Florida.

Beach chairs

There are no beach chair or umbrellas to rent at this location but feel free to bring your own beach canopy or umbrella, beach chairs, and cooler for snacks.

Fishing

If you like fishing, there is a spot on the rocks, that jets out from the shore, as seen above, where you can fish from if desired.

Take a tour to the secluded Egmont Key National Wildlife Refuge Island for a relaxing day in the sun. A great place to look for seashells also. Photo courtesy of The Pelican St Pete

Local Restaurant options in St. Pete

In the area you will find several local restaurants to choose from. There are a variety of menu options from burgers to seafood. Each one offers a unique vibe and tasty food options. Below you will find the restaurants available in St. Pete Beach. The two we have visited and recommend are below this list.

  • The Dewey Beach Bar and Grill

  • Grace

  • The Hurricane Seafood Restaurant

  • Maritana Grille

  • Paradise to Go

  • Red, White and Booze

  • The Seahorse

  • The Wharf Restaurant and Bar

The Brass Monkey

The Brass Monkey has an amazing beach view from their upper deck. There was minimal wait to be seated during our visit. The food and atmosphere provide a cool beach vibe, with a large menu. And if you are a Baltimore Raven’s fan, you will love the decor. The owners who once lived in Baltimore, bring their love of football and the Raven’s to the community. They have a large seafood menu along with burgers, appetizers, pizza and more. We ordered the Caribbean Chicken Wrap for $10.95 which was really good, and the Crab Imperial for $25.95 which was good but not worth the price for such a small portion.

The Brass Monkey apparel: You can find themed apparel below their restaurant such as T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Paradise Sweets

Paradise Sweets is located below The Brass Monkey. They have a large selection of sweets and coffee. Their ice cream was absolutely amazing. We love ice cream, and I am very picky about my flavors, but this proved to be so good!!

Their coffee must be good, as people were constantly stopping by to grab a drink before heading to the beach. Check out their menu below for options.
